One of the most rewarding of fictional forms is the short novel, or
novella. Longer than a story annd shorter than a novel, the novella
provides space for plot development, characterization, and thematic
complexity. Among the greatest short novels are Leo Tolstoy’s “The
Death of Ivan Ilych,” Franz Kafka’s “Metamorphosis,” and James
Joyce’s “The Dead.” Join us for discussion of these masterpieces on
three successive Wednesdays. Reading material will be provided.
