* No renewals No renewals on ANY items with holds on them.
RETURNS Materials borrowed at any of the Westchester Library System member libraries may be returned at any WLS member library. All material may be returned in the drop boxes outside the library at any time. Please use the appropriate box for AV or books.
PLACING HOLDS Holds can be placed at the library or online at www.westchesterlibraries.org using the patron’s library barcode. Patrons can choose to be notified by phone or email when the item is available for pick up. All material will be held for 8 days before being returned to the owning library for the next person in line on the holds list. WLS has recently instituted a new system. You now need both your barcode and the last 4 digits of the phone number registered with the Library in order to log on. If you have any issues or questions with this new system you are advised to contact your local library.
REFERENCE MATERIALS The Library has a wide selection of reference materials. These items are to be used on Library premises and are not available for loan.
INTERLIBRARY LOANS When materials are not available on site, the staff will initiate, whenever possible, interlibrary loans from other Westchester County libraries, college libraries, or New York State libraries. Items borrowed from outside WLS are for 4 weeks, with no renewals. Depending on the item that you are ordering there may be a fee for this service.
LOST BOOKS The charge for unpaid lost items will appear on a patron’s record. Patrons, who have lost any library material, will be asked to either replace the item themselves, or pay the library for the full replacement cost. Fines for the item will be waived at this time. In the event that the item is found after payment, money will not be refunded. Damaged materials are to be reported by the patron and dealt with at the discretion of the librarian.
BLOCKS CHANGE IN POLICY A Library card is blocked when accumulated charges (fines, lost items etc.) reach $25. When a block is placed on a card it prevents further use of any of the Westchester Libraries including access to all databases. You are advised to check the status of your accumulated charges regularly at your library or online to prevent your card being blocked.
USE OF COMPUTERS The Library offers Adults: 3 internet access computers with Office capabilities 1 catalog only computer (sign up not required) Children: 2 games computers, 1 internet access computer Sign up is required for computer use and is limited to 30 minutes when others are waiting. Inappropriate use of all public access computers, including changes made to any settings will result in the immediate loss of all computer privileges permanently. Games are only permitted on the designated computers in the children’s room. Movies are never permitted on any computers. Headphones must be used for all programs with sound. For additional information you can check our Policy.
SERVICES The Library has the following services for public use: Copiers both color and regular Fax machine (within the USA only) Public computers Wireless Internet service Laminating Many of these services are available for a nominal fee. The computers and wireless internet are free of charge.
STUDY AREAS Study areas are provided, in which quiet and consideration for other patrons is required.
TUTORS Tutors are welcome at the Library. As space is limited we ask that tutors follow our policy.
PROCTORED EXAMS Contact Ann Cloonan (acloonan@wlsmail.org) or Margaret Scott (mscott@wlsmail.org) if you are interested in scheduling an exam which requires a proctor. See the link for additional details. Not available when the Library is closed or on the weekends. Mornings are preferable. There is no fee and communication is the responsibility of the patron.
